CRM

Customer relationship management

A system used to organise customer, contact and sales-opportunity information. It gives the account team a shared record of who the customer is, what opportunity is being pursued and what has happened so far.

An example

An opportunity links Northstar’s account, buyer contacts, a September renewal date and quote v3. Meeting notes explain the budget constraint, while the signed agreement remains linked as a separate source document.

What to check

A CRM field may summarise a position; check the underlying agreement when the contractual detail matters.

In practice

A CRM field can be a useful signpost without being the contractual source of truth. If the payment term says Net 60, check the agreement that supports it before using it in another order.
